Hikes in the alpine

Traveling overseas is great, but I love my time at home . . . hiking in the rainforest and up to alpine.  I created this tab mainly for photos. I am no photographer, but since I'm not really a Face Book "poster" and some of my friends/relatives are the same, this seems a good way to share some of the beauty of the area.

Deer Mountain which overlooks Ketchikan is a frequent target for local hikers. Here are two close up flower photos taken during the four consecutive weekends I hiked up the mountain in June/July.

A hiking buddy's favorite flower-I'll add name when I remember!

Two miles further on the Deer Mtn. ridge line, is a pretty little lake - Blue Lake. On my first excursion there this year, a hiking friend and I discovered the shelter there had been blown off its footings, in a wild spring storm.

Below is how the cabin and lake looked  on a spectacular February hike in 2014.

On our way to the lake in February, we came across wolf tracks & followed them up the ridge line. There looked to be four or five wolves, judging by the tracks (although in this photo only 3 separate sets of tracks are showing). That was such an awesome day!
